What Do You Do With Damaged Coins? Are they worth anything?

We have some damaged coins and are not sure what to do with them.  They are United States coins look like some pennies and a few quarters, but pretty sure the quarter isnt a silver quarter. Not sure if you can even spend these? Throw them away or keep them what do you think? :) I tried to turn them into our local bank but they refused to take them, is it illegal to have these, we didnt deface them ourselves.

Yes correct the 1987 Quarter is not silver. There really isnt much you can do with these coins. They are not worth anything. Strangely enough the US Mint used to have a Mutilated Coin Redemption program (89 FR 78241) but they ended it back in May of 2024. Had you tried before October 25, 2024 you may have had a better chance of replacing them. The rule in particular is "Department of the Treasury United States Mint 31 CFR Part 100". In short no they will no longer replace damaged coins, but the Federal Reserve still replaces damaged paper currency. Currency that is damaged in a fire as an example will be replaced so long as a certain percentage of the bill is present I think. Great question. If you are super interested in the fine print reach out to them using this email inquiries@usmint.treas.gov although I really dont think its worth the effort. If you do however let us know what they say, were interested in hearing back from you. We've attached a screenshot so you can see what were talking about. Thanks!
