Blank penny

I found a black penny on both sides today at work. Is it worth anything or rare at all?

That appears to be a blank, that somehow made its way into circulation. If you could measure it and see what it weighed that may help you verify that it is in fact a penny. Planchets or blanks are meant to be struck by dies, but in rare instances the coin makes it into circulation. As for what its worth we are not certain. The thing that appears odd is that the rim seems to have already been created, not certain at what point the rim is added, but it appears to be more than just a copper planchet. There is also something called a filled die error, where the die is filled with a foreign material and the it strikes the coin. Because your coin has that rim im guessing its a filled die error. We've attached a screenshot from ebay where one is currently listed at $299.00 USD
