1977 Lincoln Cents were minted in Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. All proofs issued this year feature the S mint mark and DCAM specimens in PR-69 appear to make up the majority of certified sales, with very very few PR-68 proof circulating.

The 1977 1c is still copper being roughly 95% copper, and 5% zinc in composition.

Best known specimens are 1977 MS-68 Red and 1977 D Red of which we were unable to find any sales, although these coins were listed at Stacks Bowers but the reserves of $6,000 and $5,500 were not met. Leading us to believe the overall values of any ms-68 specimens to be less than those reserves. MS-67 graded 1977 pennies are selling for just under $100 at the time of this articles writing. Past sales from 2010 have put the MS-67 cent at $400-$700 but recent sales have not held to that price level, and were not certain why.

Updated: 2016 - A 1977-D 1C MS68 Red sold at Heritage Auctions for $7,050 in 2016 - described as flawlessly preserved and glows with satiny copper-red luster, and The Sole Finest at PCGS. So the best possible example known to exist just sold for over $7,000.
