This coin is really a Double Die strike that has created what appears to be an extra finger on lincolns left hand. Four different pennies were created and issued for the bicentennial and centennial for the Lincoln cent. The penny displayed above is that of the "Formative Years in Indiana Lincoln Penny". During the years 1816-1830 Abraham Lincoln worked on his homestead in the south of Indiana. The reverse image is engraved with old Abe sitting on a log with an Ax and a Book. The reverse of the coin contains these words and numbers; IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, 2009. While the front of this penny has the instriptions; UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE CENT, E PLURIBUS UNUM. The front of this coin was designed by Victor David Brenner.
