Broadstruck Error

Planchets that are struck outside the collar making a larger and slightly distorted coin. The rim is generally missing and the overall design is often distorted.

Clipped Planchet Error

Created by using an improperly cut coin blank. A portion of the coin is missing looks sort of like someone hit the edge of the coin with a small cookie cutter.

Double Die

Abbreviated as DDO or DDR (obverse and reverse) a coin that appears to have been struck twice by the die leaving traces of double letters, numbers, and bust edges.

Off Center Strike

Portions of the coin design will be missing as if the die didnt strike the blank planchet directly.

Die Crack

When a die is overused it cracks and then leaves a raised line when it comes in contact with the planchet, where the coin fills the crack.

Struck Through

A foreign object inserts itself between the die and blank planchet, preventing perfect contact with the two surfaces and leaving a trace of itself on the final coin.
