Part of the Westward Journey series, the Ocean in view! O! The joy! Nickel was released in 2005. The front of this coin contains the words "In God We Trust", "Liberty", and the number "2005" inscribed. The reverse of this coin contains the words "United States of America", "E pluribus unum","Five Cents", "Lewis & Clark 1805",and "Ocean In View! O! The Joy!". This non proof issue was produced at the Denver and Philadelphia mint, while a proof issue was minted in San Francisco at their facility.
The reverse of this coin shows a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean, as seen by the explorers Lewis and Clark in 1805 when they finally reached what would later become the west coast of the United States. 200 years later this coin would be issued to commemorate that expedition.
