2014 Great Sand Dunes Quarter Series

The Great Sand Dunes National Park Quarter was released in 2014 and was the 24th of the America the Beautiful Coins to be released to the public. The reverse has an image of a boy and his father playing in the sand with a pail and small shovel. The initials DE are present on the middle right and these stand for Don Everhart, the Sculptor and Engraver for the reverse. A large sand dune can be seen in the background and takes up roughly 2/3 of the entire quarter. Inscribed around the edge near the rim are the words Great Sand Dunes, Colorado, E pluribus Unum, and the date 2014.

Great Sand Dunes National Park is located in the southeastern portion of Colorado, and covers an estimated 232.9 square miles. The park is famous for its sand boarding and sand sledding along with hiking and backpacking. Medano Creek is another great attraction for the area, and is likely what influenced the Don Everhart to add a creek to the reverse of the image
