Because of this a large majority of the 4 million coins originally issued have been either melted down, or made into rings, and other jewelry. Historical sales of this coin in either MS-66 or MS-65 condition are few and far between but in these rare instances this coin has fetched $43000.00. On average however this coin can be had for around $45.00.

All Morgans are 90% silver and the mint mark is on the back under the wreath. MS-66 and MS-66 O 1897 Morgans are selling for between $30,000 and $55,000.

Ron Ferry : Your site has an 1897 O Morgan valued at $43,000? A coin dealer told me it was worth just $35. Posted: May 21, 2024 10:41 am

Admin : Thanks for posting Ron. The website says one in MS Mint State could be worth 43k. A specimen sold for $43,000 on Heritage Auctions that was MS-66. These coins are super super rare in that condition. 1897 O Morgan Silver Dollars in general were well used and over 100 years old, so to find a 100+ year old coin in perfect condition of which just 4 million were minted, and most of those likely melted down, is rare. 1897 O Morgan Sale Posted: May 21, 2024 11:00 am
